The Plaguefather givith Victory!

After finalizing my CSM/IG list, I got in a game with it against the spawnchildren of the old ones, the Eldar. With the new Eldar codex just dropping, I wasnt to sure what to expect. Fortunately, my list is a fairly good all comers list at 1850 points (see list below). I faced a mobile army (wave serpents, jetbikes with farseer and warlocks, warp spiders, hemlock fighter, nitespinner (?)) with some heavy hitters (several squads of wraithguard that were scoring) and some rangers and weapon platforms. Well, I can say that Typhus is an absolute beast, the oblits are awesome, and the heldrake really is a beast to eldar. The game ended game 5 and was rather close, but the CSM/IG pulled off the win. Some highlights were:
- Helldrake took out 2 Hull Points off Wave Serpent then flamed away 4 of 5 Wraithguard
- 5 Wraithguard shot at the oblits, and only killed one! Then the remaining oblit killed 2 with plasma shots and took down the last 3 in combat!
- The hemlock fighter wouldnt die, and forced a Plague Marine Squad AND my platoon squad to run off the board with terrify! That thing simply wasnt going down as its vector dancing on my board edge.
- Typhus wiped out the farseer jetbike squad almost on his own (farseer and 5 or 6 warlocks?)
- Havoks are ok, but oblits are likely the better choice (they also ran off the board)
- 5 Warpspiders shredded Typhus in 1 turn of shoot, such a nasty unit

WIP Havoks - conversion

Given they dont sell an updated havok box set, Im left to make my own autocannons. Im happy with how they turned out, however I do think they lack a little flare and the barrels may need to be shortened slightly. I could of course get the forgeworld autocannons that were recently released or get IG heavy weapon autocannons, but I really want to craft my own. I probably wont spend much more time on them however till I get a few games of play testing done.

I did wrap up the Nurgle squad I posted last week, and have my army fully built aside from the heldrake and Typhus (both in the mail)!

Return to Nurgle!

I lied, I didnt jump back on the wolves last week, but continued to work on the Nurgle Guard and Nurgle Marines. I decided that rather than having the Renegade IG as the primary, I switched it up. I just need my power armor! Ive got a lot of new CSM toys in the mail, sooo much to paint!

So, what did I miss?

Well Folks, as its clear from the lack of hobby updates, I took a bit of a modeling/40k break. Last time I picked up a 40k model or read a 40k blog, the Chaos Daemon codex was just about to be released... So, anyone care to recap what I missed? It looks like the Chaos Daemons and Tau codexs dropped, and I just saw pics of new eldar models on the way in June too? After 5 years in the hobby, Ive never seen things move so quickly... I have a lot of catching up to do, as at one time I was keeping myself up to par on each codex release. I may be putting down the renegade guard for a little while and getting back to my Wolves and IG allies. Looks like, at least from the FAQs, I can still run my IG blobs with rune priest attached without issue.

My Lumbering Behemoth

Finished up my Leman Russ Battletank as part of my 1850 Renegade IG list, and have a quick write up of a local tournament game I was in.

As for the game, it was at 1850 points and I ran my Loganwing drop list (1500 point list) with a guard blob (30 man w./ 3 plasmas & 3 power axes), vendetta, and heavy weapons squad (autocannons) led by a Primaris Psyker. I ran up against another Loganwing player with Thunderwolves to back it up, so a lot of hard hitting 2+/3++ on opponents side of the table. Some highlights of the game were:
-I eliminated his thunderwolf lord/thunderwolf companions on the drop with my plamsa/melta wolf guard in drop pods turn one, so off to a good start
-My blob squad ate one of his terminator/rune priest squad in shooting (1st rank fire/2nd rank fire is nasty with such a blob with some plasma peppered in) by the 2nd round
-He ran Arjak Rockfist, who punked Logan in 1 round of combat (dude is a beast)
-I ran a Rune Priest and the Primaris Psyker in with the guard blob in hopes of getting a 4+ invul save and feel no pain, only got feel no pain, though it was enough to allow the squad to absolutely own the center of the table.

The Endless Horde

Typhus will be pleased! While these are not going to be plague zombies, they are counts as guardsman in my larger blob squads. They are mantic games ghouls (as opposed to their version of the zombie) models, and I really think that while they have limited models, posing them uniquely gives them a uniform horde look. I painted them using the same technique for the green as I did on my guardsman, however the flesh was a different combination. To achieve what I think looks like a good undead flesh skintone, do the following:

Base with Karak Stone (old Dheneb stone), applying two coats onto the black primed base. Follow up with a nice wash of agrax brown wash, to which then you paint the raised areas (muscles, erc) again with Karak. Finally, on the most raised areas do a 50:50 blend of Karak and Bleached Bone to top it off!
